Getting around L’Aquila: parking, ZTL and the city shuttle
Source-checked guidance for reaching the centre, using the shuttle and checking restricted-traffic rules.
The historic centre is best explored on foot, but reaching it calls for three decisions: where to leave the car, whether to use public transport, and how to avoid restricted-traffic areas. Event-day arrangements can change, so check official notices before travelling.
Parking outside the core
Lorenzo Natali car park is by Collemaggio and the bus terminal. The official 2026 visitor guide also identifies Porta Leoni for approaching San Bernardino and Via Fortebraccio on foot. Check current access, charges and operating conditions rather than assuming a space is available.
Historic Centre Shuttle
AMA’s circular service links the Collemaggio terminal with central stops including Corso Federico II, Via XX Settembre, San Bernardino and Fontana Luminosa. Do not treat the shuttle as universally free: timetables and fare rules vary, and holiday services are advertised as paid. Confirm the correct ticket and any diversion on the day.
ZTL and your accommodation
An accommodation booking is not automatically an access permit. If your property is inside the walls, ask for exact luggage-drop instructions and consult the municipality’s CitypassAQ information before driving towards a camera-controlled entrance.
Walking and accessibility
Piazza Duomo, San Bernardino, Fontana Luminosa and Corso Vittorio Emanuele can form one walking route. Gradients, paving and temporary works may affect the journey. Ask the property and each venue for specific accessibility information.
